The Prime Minister requests fostering economic diplomacy to serve national development

On the afternoon of July 18, Prime Minister (PM) Pham Minh Chinh chaired a conference with Vietnamse representative agencies abroad, ministries, sectors and localities on promoting economic diplomacy for development in the last 6 months of 2024 and the following years.

In 2024, economic diplomacy to serve national development was implemented systematically and effectively, thereby, contributing substantially to socio-economic development. In 36 high-level foreign affairs activities, economic content continued to be a key focus. The content promotes opening export markets, negotiates free trade agreements (FTAs), and enhances the attraction of investment cooperation resources in the fields of green economy, energy conversion, high-tech agriculture, tourism, labor... be paid attention to. The interdisciplinary review of international agreements and commitments signed on the occasion of high-level foreign affairs activities is carried out monthly under the Government.

The PM’s direction in the last 6 months of the year is to promote growth associated with macroeconomic stability, control inflation, and ensure major balances of the economy; promote innovation, strive to realize the socio-economic development goal of 2024; deploy synchronously, effectively, and substantively high-level foreign affairs activities; continue to periodically review and urge progress in implementing agreed commitments; promote growth drivers, especially science, technology and innovation; improve forecasting content in research and advice to serve the Government in socio-economic management.

In Bac Ninh, support activities for investment and trade promotion at home and abroad are promoted. Contact seminars, business meetings, and investment promotion have been identified by the province as the focus of the working programs of provincial leaders in countries such as China, Qatar, South Africa... thereby contributing to promoting Bac Ninh's attractive investment environment to potential partners, attracting investment in the province's priority areas as well as the strong areas of countries visiting and learning about investment. In the first 6 months of 2024, Bac Ninh province has attracted foreign investment reaching USD 2.65 billion, ranking first in the country (in which new FDI projects increased 2 times with registered capital 1.9 times). Accumulated to date, Bac Ninh province has granted investment registration to 2,347 valid projects with a total registered investment capital of USD 27.67 billion (ranked 7th in the country in terms of investment capital attracted) from 41 countries and territories.  

At the conference, the Ambassadors, the Heads of Vietnamese representative agencies abroad, representatives from business associations, industries and localities reported and provided information on the implementation of technical research tasks in recent times and propose solutions to effectively implement this work in the coming time.

Speaking at the conference, PM Chinh emphasized a number of tasks: Prioritizing growth, renewing traditional growth drivers such as exports, promoting trade, investment, tourism cooperation and people-to-people exchanges; focus on new growth drivers, especially science, technology and innovation, build and promulgate appropriate laws, improve and develop the quality of human resources to serve the green economy, digital economy, circular economy and semiconductor industry.. Vietnamese representative agencies abroad strengthen connections between Vietnam's economy and countries around the world. The Government, ministries and branches focus on planning production areas to meet and conform to world market requirements. The Ministry of Public Security in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to research and consider expanding visa-exempt subjects. He called on international investors to invest financially in Vietnam's priority development sectors.

Giving a directive speech at the Bac Ninh venue, Mr. Vuong Quoc Tuan requested the delegates to absorb the PM's instructions to effectively deploy the work of economic exchange in the province. He requested departments and sectors focus on implementing key tasks according to Plan 421/KH-UBND dated December 29, 2023, based on the functions and tasks of implementing activities according to the tasks assigned by the managing Ministry in Government's action program on economic resources for the period of 2022-2026. In the coming time, the province plans to organize many major investment promotion and foreign affairs activities in countries and territories... He asked departments and sectors to focus and coordinate with central agencies, especially the Ministry of Planning and Investment, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Vietnamese diplomatic representative agencies abroad, foreign representative agencies in Vietnam, and international organizations to effectively implement the province's Economic Relations Plan.
