Bac Ninh student wins Gold Medals at International Chemistry Olympiad 2024

In 2024, the International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO) was held in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on July 24 and 26. The Vietnamese team includes 4 contestants: Giap Vu Son Ha, Grade 12, Bac Giang High School for the Gifted, Bac Giang province; Do Phu Quoc, Grade 12, Le Thanh Tong High School for the Gifted, Quang Nam province; Tran Dang Khoi, Grade 12, Hanoi-Amsterdam High School for the Gifted, Hanoi; Nguyen Huu Tien Hung, Grade 12, Bac Ninh High School for the Gifted.

The IChO consists of two parts: a theoretical test and a practical test. Both tests last 5 hours and was held on separate days. The theoretical test is worth 60 points and the practical test is worth 40 points. Each test is evaluated independently, and the total score of the tests is the candidate's final result.

Unlike the Math and Physics Olympiads, the results of the IPhO were kept secret until the last minute and announced at the award ceremony on the night of July 29, 2024 (Vietnam time). The results of 4/4 Vietnamese contestants winning prizes include: 3 Gold and 1 Silver Medal. With the above achievements, the Vietnamese team ranked 2nd in the world (tied with the US) after China. Nguyen Huu Tien Hung had the highest score in the Vietnamese team and ranked 17th in the world. The 3 Vietnamese contestants winning Gold Medals were: Nguyen Huu Tien Hung, grade 12, Bac Ninh High School for the Gifted; Giap Vu Son Ha, grade 12, Bac Giang High School for the Gifted (Bac Giang); Tran Dang Khoi, grade 12, Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted. Do Phu Quoc, grade 12, Le Thanh Tong High School for the Gifted (Quang Nam) won the Silver Medal.

Nguyen Huu Tien Hung is an outstanding talent of Bac Ninh High School for the Gifted. On June 3, 2024, he was honored to join the Party. In the 2022-2023 school year, as an 11th grade student, Nguyen Huu Tien Hung won the Gold Medal at the First Abu Reikhan Beruniy International Chemistry Olympiad, held in the Republic of Uzbekistan; in the 2023-2024 school year, Nguyen Huu Tien Hung won the national first prize in Chemistry and was a member of the Vietnamese team participating in the IPhO 2024, held in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

With the above outstanding achievements, Nguyen Huu Tien Hung has added to the list of achievements of Bac Ninh High School for the Gifted and the Education and Training sector, thereby, contributing to glorifying the tradition of studiousness of his homeland during the renovation period.
